A general purpose flux for use with aluminium

Description

A low fluoride off-white coloured exothermic flux for treating aluminium alloys. Function Exopure Al 135 is used for drossing off crucible and reverberatory furnaces where the aluminium alloy is held at a wide range of temperatures (700°C – 780°C). Exopure Al 135 is a low fluoride product, producing exceptionally low levels of fume during use.

Recommended Application

1. When the charge is at the pasty stage, add half the amount of flux (typically 0.25% – 0.5% by weight of metal charged), i.e. sufficient to provide a thin but continuous cover on the surface. 2. As soon as the metal is completely molten, add an equivalent quantity of flux. 3. Maintain a complete flux cover over the metal during the melting operation. 4. After the melt has been grain refined and degassed, rabble the flux thoroughly into the metal. Add further flux as required to produce dry dross low in metallic aluminium. 5. Allow to stand for 2-3 minutes. 6. Skim off and pour.
