Description

Silifin VM 1655 Aluminium Grain Refiner

Description

Grain refining agent for application with aluminium alloys with an increasing boron content.

A grey coloured tablet for grain refinement of aluminium alloys. Function Silifin VM1655 is used for the grain refinement of all aluminium alloys, except high conductivity alloys. Silifin VM1655 contains titanium and boron. Silifin VM1655 evolves exceptionally low levels of fume in operation, thereby significantly improving the working conditions in foundries.

Recommended Application

1. Pre-heat plungers and furnace tools, coated with Trennpaste Al72 to minimise iron pick-up. 2. Adjust the furnace conditions to bring the metal temperature to approximately 750°C. 3. When the temperature is falling, plunge Silifin VM1655 at a rate of 0.15-0.25% by weight of metal charged with a perforated bell plunger. When the reaction has subsided, repeating the above procedure. 4. When the reaction has ceased, stir from the bottom of the melt to ensure the grain refining agents are evenly distributed and remove the plunger. The metal is now ready for further treatment prior to drossing off. 5. The effect of grain refinement remains up to 3 hours, if metal is held for longer then we recommend re-stirring from the bottom of the melt, to ensure that the grain refining nuclei are evenly distributed throughout the melt.
